Every time a note falls, In Leagues catches it. Their songs building like lakes in a storm, too many tiny sounds to count. So download their debut ep “Life and Limb” (IT”S FREE!) and let the storm hit you, through it’s natural and expansive progressions.
“The little things have come to save us
From weathered chains around our ankles” (Little Things)
There is a buoyancy to this music, the rhythm in “Bruises” bounces and laps the vibrating air. Meanwhile Workman’s lyrics are consoling among the coming and going crescendos. It is a roller coaster without the jarring neck pain, a breathtaking flight without the turbulence.
“An empty glass, hands all shaky and timid
You threw him one more line
But it sank in the water, had it been a feather
And granted you more time” (Turning to Ghosts)
These songs are purpose built and fully functioning. With the basic four instruments (drums, guitar, bass, keyboards) playing the myriad of emotions through complex starts and stops.
“Hey, Moses, there's children dancing 'round your feet
And taking what they need from
You, Moses, and it's taken you so long
Come down from the mountain” (Moses)
In leagues was the first band I asked to play my release show. Their was nothing easy about writing that book, I didn’t want it to be easy. Nabokov wrote, “caress the detail, the divine detail.” The songs on “Life and Limb” do not sound easy to produce, they are detailed down to their smallest bones. Yet they are still so human, with the flesh of honest sincere vocals. I can’t wait to see them close out the show. Come see them at Viracocha 998 Valencia street, February 1st, 2015.
